The #2 Colorado Buffaloes entered the 2023 NCRHA Nationals with a lot of confidence and a SCHL Regional Championship under their belt. They played a tough C pool well, highlighted by a 7-2 win over RIT and a thrilling 7-6 OT loss against Quinnipiac. The Buffs finished second in pool C with 4 points, earning them a bid with Yeshiva University in the first round of the playoffs. Colorado started the game slowly, going down 2-1 after the first period. Then, injuries caught up with CU as another defenseman went down with an ankle injury, shortening the defensive depth. Colorado fought well to tie the game off a Jason Rieger goal late in the third, but Yeshiva scored with 20 seconds remaining in the 3rd. Ultimately, that was too much for the Buffs, as they were the highest seed knocked out in the round of 12, where they finished last year.
Colorado finished with a 19-1-3 overall record and earned their first SCHL Regional Championship during their first season in the division. Now, the Buffs set their sights on next season, as they will work to qualify for the 2024 NCRHA National Championships in Auburn, Maine. Help us cover the cost of Nationals and help us get a head start on next season by making a 100% tax-deductible donation here. See you next season! The schedule for the 2023 NCRHA National Championships has been released. The Buffs will travel next week to Irvine, California for the purpose of competing for the program's first National Championship.
Live-stream schedule will be announced on NCRHA.org. The round-robin schedule (all times Pacific) is as follows: 4/19 at 8:45am vs Florida Gulf Coast 4/19 at 3:00pm vs RIT 4/20 at 6:15pm vs Quinnipiac Seedings for playoffs will be confirmed after the three round robin games. Also, if you can, the Buffs need your financial support! We are a self-funded team, and we would like to send the boys to Nationals without any out-of-pocket costs. Please donate here to support us. Go Buffs! The Colorado Buffaloes are the SCHL Division III Regional Champions! The Buffs won their first regional title as a member of the SCHL, and this was their first season in the division. Colorado gutted out a tough 3-2 win in the championship game against Colorado State, with Jason Rieger scoring twice in the third period to give the Buffs the lead. Colorado State played an inspired game against the Buffs, and they will hopefully get an at-large bid to Nationals. With the win, CU earns an automatic birth to Nationals 4/19-4/23 in Irvine, California. Check the “Donate to the Team” tab for information on how to financially support us. Go Buffs! Your 12-0-1 Colorado Buffaloes will look to extend their lead in the SCHL standings when they face off against Colorado State in a two game series tomorrow morning in Parker, Colorado. The Buffs won the first two meetings against Colorado State, who will likely be the team for the Buffs to beat at Regionals next weekend.
Previously, the Buffs went to Oakland, California and went 3-0-1 on the weekend. They dropped a shootout contest to San Jose State 5-4 before beating UCSB 6-1 and then comfortably beating both Cal Poly Pomona squads. The (#1/#2) Buffs will look to extend their run tomorrow at the Parker Fieldhouse. Come out and support! The #2 power-ranked Colorado Buffaloes played a home series of games in Lakewood, CO to end the semester. Louisiana Tech was CU’s first opponent, where they blanked them 18-0 for CU’s largest ever margin of victory. Every player scored at least once, with 4 players netting hat-tricks in the win. Alex Masini returned from injury and earned the shutout. The second game was tougher, as the Buffs faced a new-look Kansas State squad. K-State held the Buffs to a 1-0 lead for a large part of the first period, but CU blew the game open and earned the 9-0 shutout win. Owen Bower had 4 goals in the win.
The third game was against Louisiana Tech once more. Owen Bower went in net, while Masini skated out. Bower earned the win, as the Buffs dominated again, winning 14-3. Dev Patel and Austin Granmoe netted hat-tricks in the victory. The fourth game against Sam Houston State was postponed due to their players coming down with altitude sickness. The game will be rescheduled for a later date. The Buffs will be back on the rink 1/28 in Oakland, CA. Before then, we will have second semester tryouts. For those who are interested, you can email the team [email protected]. Go Buffs! The Colorado Buffaloes faced off against rivals Colorado State to kick off this season’s edition of the Rocky Mountain Showdown. During the weekend, the Buffs had to deal with more adversity, as starting goaltender Alex Masini was out due to injury. However, the team has confidence in Cameron King, who is normally a skater.
Buffs dominated the first game, winning with a final score of 9-0. King earned the shutout, and Austin Granmoe led the way with 4 goals and 1 assist. King earned the 14-save shutout. The second game proved to be a bit tougher for the Buffs. CU jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the 10:02 in the second period before CSU scored 4 goals to tie the game late in the period. After a timeout, the Buffs scored twice in the last minute of the period to make it 6-4. The Buffs then pulled away in the game, winning 10-5. Dev Patel had 4 goals, Jason Rieger had 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists), and King made 20 saves in the win. Colorado returns to action on Saturday, 11/19 as they play a 4-game SCHL set at home (Lakewood, CO). Go Buffs! The Colorado Buffaloes arrived in Denton, Teaxas last weekend looking to make a statement in their first games as a Southern Collegiate Hockey League debutant. Unfortunately, the Buffs were down to 5 skaters for the entirety of the weekend. That didn’t stop the team, however. CU won their first two games against North Texas and Louisiana Tech by a combined score of 25-0. They then had a tougher test against a determined Sam Houston State, who took the lead early in the game. CU then fought back and took the game 8-2. The Buffs then beat North Texas 10-2 on Sunday morning to go 4-0 on the weekend.
CU had a great start to the season. The squad is determined to build on that start on Saturday, 11/5 as they face off against Colorado State to start this season’s edition of the Rocky Mountain Showdown in roller hockey. Game times are at 12:30pm and 2pm at the Parker Fieldhouse in Parker, CO. Go Buffs! The Colorado Buffaloes will open their 2022-2023 campaign as a new member of the Southern Collegiate Hockey League (SCHA). This is the first time that the Buffs have been a member of a division since the disbanding of the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (RMCHRA) in 2019. The SCHL consists of the Buffs, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State, North Texas, and Arkansas.
The schedule is as follows: 10/22 @ 6pm vs Louisiana Tech 10/22 @ 8pm vs Sam Houston State 10/22 @ 10pm vs North Texas 10/23 @ 9:30am vs Sam Houston State The games will take place at Lone Star Sports in Denton, Texas.
